How to Learn
One of the main obstacles students encounter is that of
learning and remembering the material presented. Students
feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information presented
and may wonder how they will manage to remember enough,
especially for passing examinations.
Although
we spend much of our life processing information, the
average person knows very little about how we accomplish
this amazing feat. Possessing the ability to evaluate
and modify your personal learning style is called metalearning
(ie. learning about how one learns) and is a valuable
skill to acquire during your time at university. If you
hope to become proficient as an independent learner then
you will find it necessary to develop special techniques
for learning and remembering the things you have studied.
This
section is an introduction to how learning and memory
work, and suggests methods for improving your ability
to recall important information.
