Equal Opportunity laws and UB Policies aim to ensure staff and students are not subjected to sexual harassment and are not treated unfairly (discriminated or harassed) on the basis of:

sex marital status gender identity pregnancy
sexual orientation breastfeeding lawful sexual activity status as a parent or carer
race age disability religious belief or activity
physical features political belief or activity medical record criminal record
2. Student Equity and diversity initiatives >> More information

UB aims to respond to the diverse needs of our students and our community and move towards increasing numbers of students who are traditionally have not had the same advantages as others in accessing study, such as:

women in study areas where they have traditionally been under-represented people from a low income/low socio-economic background
people from a rural or isolated background people from a non-English speaking background
people with a disability older people or younger people, especially those out of employment
indigenous people

UB recognises that a commitment to achieving equal opportunity for women in the workplace (formerly known as affirmative action) leads to greater diversity of skills, knowledge and ideas.   UB has a continuing obligation under the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 to develop and implement strategies to improve employment prospects, remuneration and career development for women.

The NDCO project is an initiative of the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations.
The main objectives for the Western Region NDCO are to:

Improve transitions to help people with a disability from school or community into post-school education and training and subsequent employment;
Increase participation by people with a disability in higher education, voctional education and training and employment;
Establish better links between schools, universities, TAFEs, training providers and disability service providers so that they can work together to provide the best possible assistance for people with a disability.
